How to Spend a Day in Verona

Planning a trip abroad can take time to research since many beautiful cities have plenty of history attached. But a place that most people decide to go to is Verona. It’s known as the “red-roofed” city because when you’re viewing the city from above, that’s all you’ll see.

Verona is also famous for being the home of Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare set his famous play in this city, where the two lovers met (although they weren’t real people). Besides this, Verona has a lot to do, which can all be done in a day. First, you’ll need to put your bags in Verona luggage storage and then go out and enjoy all the city has to offer.

Visit Arena di Verona

Arena di Verona is one of the city’s most famous sights. It’s been around for centuries, dating back to about 30 AD. Around that time, the amphitheater was used for gladiator games and other events. But since it’s been preserved so well, concerts and various performances are held there now.

You can visit the grounds and tour it alone or book a guided tour to learn more about the Arena di Verona’s history. Since it’s a popular tourist destination, you can expect long lines. You can make life easier by buying a Verona Card, which allows you to skip queues and use unlimited public transportation.

See the City from Lamberti Tower

Lamberti Tower is the tallest structure in Verona. It was initially built in the 1100s by the Lamberti family. The original height was 36 meters, but after some construction in the surrounding area, it was revamped and increased to 84 meters.

Climbing the tower is no easy feat; there are over 300 steps before you reach the top. If you’re feeling lazy or don’t feel like working out because you’ll be on your feet all day, you can also take the elevator. However, there will be an additional charge to do so. Once you reach the tip, you’ll get a panoramic view of the city and see the red rooftops.

Call out to Romeo at Casa di Giulietta

No trip to Verona would be complete if you didn’t visit Juliet’s house. It’s the most popular attraction in the city. Although Romeo and Juliet were fictional characters, people still flock to the place to see the balcony where she called out to her lover.

You can view the home from the outside or pay a small fee to see the inside. An urban legend says you’ll find true love and happiness if you touch Juliet’s bust. You can also send a letter to

Juliet, and you’ll get a response! A group of volunteers handles them, but it’s a fun activity to do while visiting the home.

Shop in Piazza Delle Erbe

Even though you’re away, there’s always time to go shopping. And what better way than by visiting the Piazza Delle Erbe? It’s a short walk from Lamberti Tower. So after your long climb, unwind by visiting the shops there.

Besides the numerous shops, there are also beautiful monuments on the outskirts. Plus, in the middle of the square, you’ll see Madonna Verona, a fountain that was built in the 1300s.

Scaliger Tombs

Not to take a dark turn, but a sight you should see while visiting Verona is the Scaliger Tombs. They were built to honor the Scaliger family, the ruling family in Verona during ancient times. As the name indicates, you’ll be looking at their graves, but the erected monuments are beautiful.

It only costs a euro to take a peek inside the iron gates and grab a closer view of the tombs. But you can always stay outside if you don’t want to get that close.

Here’s How to Spend a Day in Verona

Verona is a beautiful city with a lot to offer. So it’s easy to fill your day with activities. Once you drop your bags in luggage storage, start your day by visiting the Arena di Verona, and imagine what it is like to be a spectator during the gladiator matches. Then take a short walk to Lamberti Tower, where you can climb the staircase to get a view of the city from above.

Next, take a short walk to Piazza Delle Erbe to view the fountain and monuments and relax. Afterward, you can visit Juliet’s house and get good luck with your love life. You can do these few things, but there’s plenty more once you arrive. Figure out what you want to do and enjoy Verona.
